Station 6 Open House

On August 22nd, 2026 West Metro Fire Rescue held an open house at Station 6, located on the 6th Ave. Service Rd. Station 6 was built in 1985 and is the former Lakewood Fire Department Station 6. The community came out to tour the station, meet firefighters, ask questions and have their photos taken with some of the apparatus. Stickers, bicycle bells and other fun items were available; while snacks and drinks were supplied in the kitchen. Station 6’s response area includes the Colorado Mills Mall, Red Rocks Community College & three major highways: I-70, C-470 & 6th Ave. This station response area borders the City of Golden and includes a dual-response with the Pleasant View Fire District and also with West Metro Station 5 and has a mutual-aid agreement with the Golden Fire Department. Station 6 is also home to the District’s only Tactical Tender “Tender 6” which holds 2000 gallons of water. The WMFR open houses also help to show how much the coasts are for the department from the turnout gear and SCBA to radios, helmets, tools, and all the other equipment they rely on every day including training, outfitting a single West Metro firefighter costs nearly $50,000. It’s one of the biggest behind-the-scenes investments they make-before a firefighter ever responds to a single call. Like everything else, the cost of this lifesaving equipment continues to rise.
